From PCOS to Pregnancy, Mrs Ankana narrates her IVF journey
After Ankana and her husband tied the knot in the year 2003, a child was not on their mind at least immediately. She was in her 20’s back then. The couple decided not to have a baby for at least a year. When they finally dreamed of having a child in their lives, their initial attempts were in vain as her weight problems restricted her chances of getting pregnant naturally.
Ankana rushed to her family doctor next day and the doctor asked her to see a gynecologist. A visit to gynecologist and a Hysterosalpingogram (HSG) test found out that she had PCOS (Polycystic ovary syndrome). A (HSG) is an X-ray test that looks at the inside of the uterus and fallopian tubes and the area around them.
Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome is an ovulation disorder, which affects 4-6% of all women. The major features of this syndrome is irregular or no menstruation, hirsutism and acne due to high levels of male hormones, obesity (40-50%), high insulin levels with risk of developing diabetes, and large polycystic ovaries shown on ultrasound.
As suggested by her gynecologist Ankana tried weight loss through dieting and exercise which did not help her much as she struggled to get pregnant naturally. Ankana successfully got pregnant but only to have miscarriage not once, but twice. Ankana and her family were completely devastated and gave up all hopes of having their dream child. The high cost of diagnosis and treatment had also drained them financially.
One morning as Ankana was on her way to office, she came across Deccan Fertility Clinic. She was reluctant to even think of trying a test tube baby because of the cost but that was not the case after she met Dr Sulbha Arora. The affordable treatment at Deccan Fertility Clinic gave her new hopes about her child. After going through the reports, Dr Sulbha Arora assured her that it is indeed possible for her to become pregnant. After only three months of an IUI treatment, Ankana is today blessed with a child as she finally got pregnant.
